Periodontitis is caused by the inflammation of tooth-supporting tissue pathogens such as Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. Interleukin-1β (IL-1β), a pro-inflammatory cytokine, triggers series inflammatory reactions and promotes bone resorption.
